Yes. Rioting doesn't attract business. A low income area would normally tempt someone to build a factory there.





Can't have prosperity without productivity. Can't have productivity without someone risking their savings to build something productive. People won't do that in a high risk/ low reward environment.

Good question. I can't speak to Mr. Jackson or Mr. Sharpton, but in my home state of WV, the state government has quite a lucrative poverty industry in place. The general consensus among state bureaucrats (in a state that just happens to be majority democrat) is that the general population is too stupid and lazy to survive without the 'help' of the govt. and its various programs. Legislation comes along now and again to impose accountability upon both subsidy recipients and govt. agencies... and it is trounced because the govt. knows when it has a good thing going (... for the govt., not the people...).


You can have all the babies you want with the assurance that your medical care and basic food needs are met. There is no reason not to have more babies... they will be taken care of.


It's also disgraceful that you have to be completely dead on your *** in order to get taxpayer money. You can live better on govt. handouts than if you bust your *** at a menial job. If you are working, you will likely lose most if not all of your handouts. This has always puzzled me: If you want to promote self-reliance, why pull the rug out from the joker who is at least trying all at once. Can there not be a step-down program?


I despise the contempt most bureaucrats have for the general population. The bureaucrats need you to need them. The icing on the cake is the slack-jawed mouth breathers who work for our DHHR on a local level. They are ignorant (...don't know policy...), lazy (...don't care to find answers or put effort/pride into their work...) and usually surly. If you can't make it anywhere in WV, go work for DHHR. They are always looking for few good idiots. I have never worked for DHHR and know a few fine people who work for that agency, but they are the exception.


There a lot of people out there who are willing to settle for less (even though they won't be happy... go figure... according to a recent poll, WV is a miserable place to live). WV is not a miserable place to live. It is a beautiful state that an outdoorsman can always be happy with. If you are miserable, why? Is it because you are dependent upon the largesse of the American taxpayer and know there is a bigger, better life out there? Why bother trying to improve yourself? The state knows you're stupid... don't even try to better yourself or you are on your own.


I believe there are forces at work to keep the poor where they are at. It's called job security.
In a way, yes... because they will never stop talking about minorities like they're ';victims';... and as long as the ';victim'; mentality is perpetuated, people won't pull themselves up by the bootstraps and take responsibility for their own lives.


I come from a poor family... but we were a hardworking poor family, and we never saw ourselves as victims and we never took a dime of assistance.
