I need help deciding who to vote for in the presidential election, political science people..?
give me a really, really indepth look into the candidates positions on some of the more sensitive US policies and issues that are being addressed and even some more hidden ones that many Americans never even heard of like the Kyoto International Conservation Treaty that was swept under the carpet durring the Bush Sr. and Clinton Admins. and Killed By George W. Admin.
I am looking for a deeper insite than the usual media surface reports on issues like solutions for: (you don't have to answer them all, I just want some clification)
1) Current Demise of the Domestic Industrial Base (NAFTA reform)
2) solutions for the Sub-Prime Loan Crisis and declining housing market
3) Global Warming
4) Investment banking crisis
5) Consumer Confidence
6) Iraq Stratiges
7) Deflating Dollar
8) Health Reforn
9) unemployment
10) education
etc...
I know alot of these are intertwined but please giveIs there anyone who actually knows about the candidate's who can give me some real in site? Other than rant?
First of all, thank you for asking an intellegent question! I have done quite a bit of research and I'm happy to share with you what I have found. You ask about several topics and I can't type that many characters, so I'll do what I can to help.
Sen. Obama on the Economy - http://www.barackobama.com/issues/econom鈥?/a>
On the mortgage crisis, Obama feels that the deregulation of the 90's led to too many mortgages to people who could not afford balloon payments. Predatory lending and mortgage fraud in the subprime markets are 2 areas of legislation that Obama has already introduced.
He is going to fight to keep jobs in the US and introduced the Patriot Employer Act of 2007 to provide tax breaks to companies that not only headquarter in the US, but keep or increase the % of workers in the US.
He also is planning on creating jobs in clean energy technologies. Obama will create a federal Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) that will require 25 percent of American electricity be derived from renewable sources by 2025, which has the potential to create hundreds of thousands of new jobs on its own.
Bill Clinton's NAFTA was oversold to the American people. Obama will work with the leaders of Canada and Mexico to fix NAFTA so that it works for American workers. Clinton's NAFTA has caused the loss of millions of US jobs - http://www.epi.org/content.cfm/bp173. Obama will work to keep jobs in the US.
On Education - Sen. Obama is a big proponent of improving education. http://www.barackobama.com/issues/educat鈥?/a>
His emphasis is on paying and attracting qualified, motivational teachers is key. He will reform No-Child Left Behind, which causes teachers to teach to tests, rather than for education. He has a plan to make math and science a priority. And start up after school programs to keep kids off the streets, keep them from dropping out and advancing their learning. He knows the importance of this from his years working as a community organizer in the slums of Chicago, helping teens stay in school and get jobs.
On health care - contrary to Clinton's plan, Obama will not force you to buy health insurance. He will provide affordable insurance to anyone who wants it even with pre-existing conditions. The problem with Hillary's plan is that for someone who is strapped for money and/or does not wish to purchase insurance - they will be fined. If they cannot afford the fine, their wages will be garnished. This to me, is a violation of my freedom! I'm happy with Obama's optional plan and if my insurance at work is good, I'll keep that one. Hillary's plan is a socialized medicine. For more details on his plan http://www.barackobama.com/issues/health鈥?/a>
What I am particularly attracted to about Sen Obama is his willingness to go against the same old Washington politics, a government controlled by corporations and their lobbyists. An effort to bring ethics to Washington may be a huge undertaking but Obama has already introduced ethics reform legislature described as ';gold standard';. For more information on his ethics programs http://www.barackobama.com/issues/ethics鈥?/a>
I believe we need some change in Washington, some new blood, not tied to all the old tricks. Too many politicians are in bed with big corporations and are motivated by power and campaign contributions. They may SAY they are going to fight for us, but that's all old political rhetoric. People who have worked with Obama, support him. They know his character and work record. Even those who had worked for the Clintons in the past, many of them now support Obama.
And one more thought, I also looked carefully at how each candidate handled their campaign. Clinton assumed she would win by super Tuesday and hadn't planned for a fight beyond that. No one knew who Barack Obama even was early on. Everyone knew the Clintons. But even as an unknown, he showed superior management skills as his campaign went on to raise more contributions than ever in history - up to over 1.3 million individual folks so far. He put the right people in the right jobs. He's managed his campaign and his people much better than Hillary has. She ran out of money, fired a few key people, and changed her ';theme'; a dozen times. He is inspiring and she is manipulative.
Good luck in your research! I'm glad I did mine. I'm making an educated decision, not based on media ';drama';.Is there anyone who actually knows about the candidate's who can give me some real in site? Other than rant?
Any of their websites will give you their stances on just about everything you can think of.
And just to note, isn't it sad that we aren't more educated about their stances on things that matter by the media?
Half of the last debate was completely useless, the purpose was completely lost.
And not that many people actually take/have the time to read, so that's all they get.
McCain wants to continue the War on Iraq
Obama and Hilary both want out of the war and have different strategies to leave iraq. However both strategies are unclear.
Their canidates' websites do help clear things up. I am undecided as well. The change could be nice but I do not think I need universal health care. I can afford my own.
You have just disappointed many people. You don't want to talk about the Rev. Wright. How refreshing. I agree with the others here.... there is much information on line but it is posted by the candidates. It's better to go to government records for their voting records.
The New York Times website has the best political info. You can find out anything you want to know about a candidate.
CNN.com has all their stances.
Google ';delegates CNN'; then click on the candidate you'd like to know about.
you are a little late now because there is no one to vote for now. that is, unless you still live in a state that hasn't had its primaries. if that is the case, please look up ron paul. congressman for 20+ years from texas, a republican that voted against the iraq war. he is a true conservative who is a HARDCORE constitutionalists. he raised more money that any republican from july until the primaries started. he raised 20,000,000 in the forth quarter besting by far any other republican and rivaling obama and clinton's numbers moneywise. now ask yourself why haven't you ever heard of RON PAUL. the answer is they don't want you to hear his education he is giving america on how the government is suppose to be. if you want someone who understands and believes in the constitution, look up ron paul
A couple of things you shoud really consider are
1. John McCain is the one that introduced the Military Commissions Act that took away Habeaus Corpus, our right to a fair trial, right to face our accuser, and the right to know what we are being accused of. This is a slap in the face for Americans. http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/John_McC鈥?/a>
2. Barrack Obama has proposed a Global Poverty Tax that will cost the American taxpayers a 13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends. http://www.aim.org/aim-column/obamas-glo鈥?/a>
3. Clinton says to open the borders to illegal immigration. She also says to allow illegal immigrants to sign up for social security. http://www.firesociety.com/article/21852
4. Ron Paul says to restore the constitution. No to partial birth abortion. Yes on building a border fence. Yes to restore Habeaus Corpus. Opposes Patriot Act. In other words Ron Paul is actually FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. I am voting Ron Paul all the way!!!
http://www.ronpaul2008.com/
I think you sound too big government to like the sound of Ron Paul's policies on global warming etc, but here is what I know:
1) Current Demise of the Domestic Industrial Base (NAFTA reform) --
would veto NAFTA when it came up for reauthorization as an unconstitutional delegation of US sovereign powers to international organizations where individual Americans have no chance to influence policy. Supports free trade with a level playing field so individuals and small businesses of all countries, rather than international special interests, are served.
You can see the candidate postions at www.cfr.org, an organization Hillary, McCain and Obama all speak at. There is a 'candidates issues' page and a subsection on trade. It quotes Ron Paul as saying that NAFTA is a disaster. The others want to keep it, the Dems with the sort of minor tweaks they taped to the Peru trade agreement.
2) solutions for the Sub-Prime Loan Crisis and declining housing market
Stop devaluing the dollar and creating the bubbles by auditing the fed and giving it true oversight (rather than newly putting ALL markets under the Fed and the President's Working Group on Financial Markets as Bush is doing. Stop taxpayer bailouts of banks that placed bad loans.
3) Global Warming - not a federally enumerated power to manage industry.
4) Investment banking crisis - see above, stop messing with our money and credit, introduce competing currency of gold and silver to keep the fed honest, and work to get rid of the fed altogether.
5) Consumer Confidence - how is this a government issue? Consumers would be a lot more confident if the government stopped overspending and printing new money out of thin air, debasing our currency, however.
6) Iraq Stratiges - just come home
7) Deflating Dollar - see above, ad nauseum and see this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaxdUPNYj鈥?/a>
8) Health Reform - he has a bill in congress you don't have to wait until after the election to support if you want something over the centuries the others will be debating what they want. http://action.downsizedc.org/wyc.php?cid鈥?/a>
9) unemployment - fix the dollar, cut spending, return tax funds to our people, bring our troops home to spend their money here (MAJOR economic stimulus even if you keep them on payroll). Unemployment would become transient, but the economy sucks, and we are going to have a sucky time until we can work our way out of it.
10) education - tax credits for all tuition costs of any kind. Also, some of his supporters have already started to put together a 'free market' scholarship service to match corporate and other scholorships with students who need them. I'm sure he'd be delighted to give the corporations who gave them tax credits, too.
get rid of the FEDERAL dept of ed and return funding to the taxpayers where states can collect such moneys as they need for their schools, locally, where individuals can better impact policy.
