Does it annoy you when a simple question you ask about dogs gets hijacked and turns intoa row or a rant?

Like my recent question on which is your least favourite breed and why - don't all yell that your dogs are the best breed - I'm sure they are lovely dogs - but guess what; not everyone likes your breed best!!! Lots of people hate terriers (my breed) and I freely admit I wouldn't want every one to love them - there are fewer in rescue this way.....oh man Now I'm wandering - so anyway - do you hate a question going off topic or do you enjoy the cut and thrust of debate in dogs?Does it annoy you when a simple question you ask about dogs gets hijacked and turns intoa row or a rant?
Sometimes, I enjoy a good debate....but it largely depends on the importance of the topic. I don't argue with stupid, because it gets me nowhere, but if the topic is controversial, it's exciting to have a good debate.

I can't stand the way people suggest their breed is the best for everyone...Like in those questions regarding 'what breed is right for me', most morons jump to suggest their breed...while I post websites to encourage research. I don't go around screamin ';Pit bulls (my chosen breed) are the best dogs ever!!';.....just because they suit me best, doesn't mean the same for you.Does it annoy you when a simple question you ask about dogs gets hijacked and turns intoa row or a rant?
I don't mind a good debate when the participants are informed make good, respectful points or openly admit that they didn't know something. The purpose of debate is to learn something new and achieve better understanding of the 'opposition'. Many times it degrades into a yelling, idiotic name-calling match here though.

As far as my least favorite breed: I don't really have one. I do my best to take each dog on it's individual ground. I must say that I'm not a fan of Poms though. In my limited experience they tend to be rather loony(small man syndrome). Case in point; about a month ago a 15lb Pom charged my 85lb mix and actually nailed him in the face (Pom was loose, my dog was on leash) so now I am constantly watching for Poms :)
HOW DARE people not like terriers? Terriers are the best dogs ever.....oh, you mean like that? I think there are certain questions that will always lead to a flurry of thumbs down, arguments, debates, etc. Best/worst/cutest/ugliest - even raw feeding, vaccinations, and training methods.

Just to answer your original question - I'm not too fond of most of the toy breeds - don't know why, but for me, they lack some sort of spark. And I love terriers - but not the bull terrier types so much. I currently have a miniature schnauzer, and am researching border terriers, wire fox terriers and Irish terriers as my potential next dog. Gotta love them terriers!
I dislike only when people clearly didn't read my question. A lot of times, I feel I have made it clear that I am asking for people's opinion....yet I get answers telling ME how to do something.

I ask very few questions that people seem to find interesting and thought provoking. The few I have asked that turn into a heated debate delight me. It means I have asked something people are willing to go out of their way to answer...and there is such a wide variety of views, it's very interesting to read all the responses.
Sometimes it bothers me. I just really hate when your asking a question and get attacked for asking it example I asked opinion on gentle leaders and someone came across to me like trying to say I was bad person for even considering it. I just wanted opinions not criticism (I got it and love it by the way). I see it alot people asking a question (dumb to us or not) a serious question and get called all sort of names. It sometimes seems like we are back in elementary school (I guess since I work at one I fit in here better lol).

It reminds me of how people like to discuss religion (never is a discussion as a my way or no way one sided talk).
I hate when people take things to heart on this website. It is the internet. And people get so heated over things that other people are saying on purpose to GET them fired up.

So yes, I hate when a question goes off topic, and I hate the cut and thrust of debate, ESPECIALLY in the Dog's Section.
I mirror Courtney's reply. It does get annoying.
Yes,

I asked a question about cats a few days ago and I mentioned that I have never owned a cat, I got people telling me that they need vaccines and vet checks! I might not know about cats but I'm not stupid. Lets just say the same person did not answer my question.

Back to the dogs section.... Most people don't read everything one rights and then jump to conclusions.

I love my breed and they differently aren't a breed for everyone.

If someone does not like my breed, its their choice.

I don't hate any breed but I would not own them all.

Like jack Russel's, I can't be around those dogs. I would not own one but THAT'S MY CHOICE. I know there are good Jack Russel's, every breed has good and bad dogs but I still would not own one.

I love terriers.
The basic problem that I have observed is that there are 3 types of people who ask questions on here:

1. Someone has a REAL question and wants an answer. Then they get BOMBED with responses about puppy mills, rescue dogs, irresponsible ownership, parvo, back yard breeders, etc.

2. Someone asks a question, but really wants their on opinion reinforced and doesn't acknowledge any thoughtful answers.

Then they get BOMBED with the rhetoric from above.

3. Children looking for attention
Yes, it seems that no one can ask a simple question about dogs without hords of childish simpletons having a problem with something they said, or deriding the questioner for this or that. Like thinking no one should ever buy a dog. Ranting feverishly about things the news media has trumped up which they are personally clueless about. Hating this breed or that. Calling people's dogs mutts when all dogs are a product of breeding for certain characteristics and so all breeds were mutts bred by someone they would consider a disreputable breeder, oh but now they have a piece of paper from some group who profits by handing out pieces of paper, and that changes the genetics of dogs somehow, lol. Hating dogs some have as beloved pets which they have never even expirianced because of what others have said about them. Getting all wrought up and going on a vitriolic crusade, especially those who don't know a thing about anything, because of what someone else told them to think on a subject, which is often non sensical and has it's own selfish agenda ... It goes on and on.

If someone can't just answer the stupid question, they shouldn't comment on it. This isn't a rant forum, well it's not supposed to be, it's a Q%26amp;A forum. No one deserves to be personally attacked by a bunch of little group thinking brain dead fascist wanna be's every time they ask a simple question.

But it is nice when someone asks a question that allows you to express something you feel strongly about in the answer : ). Then it's all good.

Good question ...

Is there anyone who actually knows about the candidate's who can give me some real in site? Other than rant?

I need help deciding who to vote for in the presidential election, political science people..?

give me a really, really indepth look into the candidates positions on some of the more sensitive US policies and issues that are being addressed and even some more hidden ones that many Americans never even heard of like the Kyoto International Conservation Treaty that was swept under the carpet durring the Bush Sr. and Clinton Admins. and Killed By George W. Admin.

I am looking for a deeper insite than the usual media surface reports on issues like solutions for: (you don't have to answer them all, I just want some clification)

1) Current Demise of the Domestic Industrial Base (NAFTA reform)

2) solutions for the Sub-Prime Loan Crisis and declining housing market

3) Global Warming

4) Investment banking crisis

5) Consumer Confidence

6) Iraq Stratiges

7) Deflating Dollar

8) Health Reforn

9) unemployment

10) education

etc...

I know alot of these are intertwined but please giveIs there anyone who actually knows about the candidate's who can give me some real in site? Other than rant?
First of all, thank you for asking an intellegent question! I have done quite a bit of research and I'm happy to share with you what I have found. You ask about several topics and I can't type that many characters, so I'll do what I can to help.

Sen. Obama on the Economy - http://www.barackobama.com/issues/econom鈥?/a>

On the mortgage crisis, Obama feels that the deregulation of the 90's led to too many mortgages to people who could not afford balloon payments. Predatory lending and mortgage fraud in the subprime markets are 2 areas of legislation that Obama has already introduced.

He is going to fight to keep jobs in the US and introduced the Patriot Employer Act of 2007 to provide tax breaks to companies that not only headquarter in the US, but keep or increase the % of workers in the US.

He also is planning on creating jobs in clean energy technologies. Obama will create a federal Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) that will require 25 percent of American electricity be derived from renewable sources by 2025, which has the potential to create hundreds of thousands of new jobs on its own.

Bill Clinton's NAFTA was oversold to the American people. Obama will work with the leaders of Canada and Mexico to fix NAFTA so that it works for American workers. Clinton's NAFTA has caused the loss of millions of US jobs - http://www.epi.org/content.cfm/bp173. Obama will work to keep jobs in the US.

On Education - Sen. Obama is a big proponent of improving education. http://www.barackobama.com/issues/educat鈥?/a>

His emphasis is on paying and attracting qualified, motivational teachers is key. He will reform No-Child Left Behind, which causes teachers to teach to tests, rather than for education. He has a plan to make math and science a priority. And start up after school programs to keep kids off the streets, keep them from dropping out and advancing their learning. He knows the importance of this from his years working as a community organizer in the slums of Chicago, helping teens stay in school and get jobs.

On health care - contrary to Clinton's plan, Obama will not force you to buy health insurance. He will provide affordable insurance to anyone who wants it even with pre-existing conditions. The problem with Hillary's plan is that for someone who is strapped for money and/or does not wish to purchase insurance - they will be fined. If they cannot afford the fine, their wages will be garnished. This to me, is a violation of my freedom! I'm happy with Obama's optional plan and if my insurance at work is good, I'll keep that one. Hillary's plan is a socialized medicine. For more details on his plan http://www.barackobama.com/issues/health鈥?/a>

What I am particularly attracted to about Sen Obama is his willingness to go against the same old Washington politics, a government controlled by corporations and their lobbyists. An effort to bring ethics to Washington may be a huge undertaking but Obama has already introduced ethics reform legislature described as ';gold standard';. For more information on his ethics programs http://www.barackobama.com/issues/ethics鈥?/a>

I believe we need some change in Washington, some new blood, not tied to all the old tricks. Too many politicians are in bed with big corporations and are motivated by power and campaign contributions. They may SAY they are going to fight for us, but that's all old political rhetoric. People who have worked with Obama, support him. They know his character and work record. Even those who had worked for the Clintons in the past, many of them now support Obama.

And one more thought, I also looked carefully at how each candidate handled their campaign. Clinton assumed she would win by super Tuesday and hadn't planned for a fight beyond that. No one knew who Barack Obama even was early on. Everyone knew the Clintons. But even as an unknown, he showed superior management skills as his campaign went on to raise more contributions than ever in history - up to over 1.3 million individual folks so far. He put the right people in the right jobs. He's managed his campaign and his people much better than Hillary has. She ran out of money, fired a few key people, and changed her ';theme'; a dozen times. He is inspiring and she is manipulative.

Good luck in your research! I'm glad I did mine. I'm making an educated decision, not based on media ';drama';.Is there anyone who actually knows about the candidate's who can give me some real in site? Other than rant?
Any of their websites will give you their stances on just about everything you can think of.

And just to note, isn't it sad that we aren't more educated about their stances on things that matter by the media?

Half of the last debate was completely useless, the purpose was completely lost.

And not that many people actually take/have the time to read, so that's all they get.
McCain wants to continue the War on Iraq

Obama and Hilary both want out of the war and have different strategies to leave iraq. However both strategies are unclear.

Their canidates' websites do help clear things up. I am undecided as well. The change could be nice but I do not think I need universal health care. I can afford my own.
You have just disappointed many people. You don't want to talk about the Rev. Wright. How refreshing. I agree with the others here.... there is much information on line but it is posted by the candidates. It's better to go to government records for their voting records.
The New York Times website has the best political info. You can find out anything you want to know about a candidate.
CNN.com has all their stances.

Google ';delegates CNN'; then click on the candidate you'd like to know about.
you are a little late now because there is no one to vote for now. that is, unless you still live in a state that hasn't had its primaries. if that is the case, please look up ron paul. congressman for 20+ years from texas, a republican that voted against the iraq war. he is a true conservative who is a HARDCORE constitutionalists. he raised more money that any republican from july until the primaries started. he raised 20,000,000 in the forth quarter besting by far any other republican and rivaling obama and clinton's numbers moneywise. now ask yourself why haven't you ever heard of RON PAUL. the answer is they don't want you to hear his education he is giving america on how the government is suppose to be. if you want someone who understands and believes in the constitution, look up ron paul
A couple of things you shoud really consider are

1. John McCain is the one that introduced the Military Commissions Act that took away Habeaus Corpus, our right to a fair trial, right to face our accuser, and the right to know what we are being accused of. This is a slap in the face for Americans. http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/John_McC鈥?/a>

2. Barrack Obama has proposed a Global Poverty Tax that will cost the American taxpayers a 13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends. http://www.aim.org/aim-column/obamas-glo鈥?/a>

3. Clinton says to open the borders to illegal immigration. She also says to allow illegal immigrants to sign up for social security. http://www.firesociety.com/article/21852

4. Ron Paul says to restore the constitution. No to partial birth abortion. Yes on building a border fence. Yes to restore Habeaus Corpus. Opposes Patriot Act. In other words Ron Paul is actually FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. I am voting Ron Paul all the way!!!

http://www.ronpaul2008.com/
I think you sound too big government to like the sound of Ron Paul's policies on global warming etc, but here is what I know:

1) Current Demise of the Domestic Industrial Base (NAFTA reform) --

would veto NAFTA when it came up for reauthorization as an unconstitutional delegation of US sovereign powers to international organizations where individual Americans have no chance to influence policy. Supports free trade with a level playing field so individuals and small businesses of all countries, rather than international special interests, are served.

You can see the candidate postions at www.cfr.org, an organization Hillary, McCain and Obama all speak at. There is a 'candidates issues' page and a subsection on trade. It quotes Ron Paul as saying that NAFTA is a disaster. The others want to keep it, the Dems with the sort of minor tweaks they taped to the Peru trade agreement.

2) solutions for the Sub-Prime Loan Crisis and declining housing market

Stop devaluing the dollar and creating the bubbles by auditing the fed and giving it true oversight (rather than newly putting ALL markets under the Fed and the President's Working Group on Financial Markets as Bush is doing. Stop taxpayer bailouts of banks that placed bad loans.

3) Global Warming - not a federally enumerated power to manage industry.

4) Investment banking crisis - see above, stop messing with our money and credit, introduce competing currency of gold and silver to keep the fed honest, and work to get rid of the fed altogether.

5) Consumer Confidence - how is this a government issue? Consumers would be a lot more confident if the government stopped overspending and printing new money out of thin air, debasing our currency, however.

6) Iraq Stratiges - just come home

7) Deflating Dollar - see above, ad nauseum and see this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaxdUPNYj鈥?/a>

8) Health Reform - he has a bill in congress you don't have to wait until after the election to support if you want something over the centuries the others will be debating what they want. http://action.downsizedc.org/wyc.php?cid鈥?/a>

9) unemployment - fix the dollar, cut spending, return tax funds to our people, bring our troops home to spend their money here (MAJOR economic stimulus even if you keep them on payroll). Unemployment would become transient, but the economy sucks, and we are going to have a sucky time until we can work our way out of it.

10) education - tax credits for all tuition costs of any kind. Also, some of his supporters have already started to put together a 'free market' scholarship service to match corporate and other scholorships with students who need them. I'm sure he'd be delighted to give the corporations who gave them tax credits, too.

get rid of the FEDERAL dept of ed and return funding to the taxpayers where states can collect such moneys as they need for their schools, locally, where individuals can better impact policy.

Do you find that, whether a Question is topical or not, if just gives (you AND me) the opportunity to RANT?

I see many intelligent, and many not so much intelligent Questions being asked here in Elections on a daily...

NO, make that, an hourly basis.

And, that's all well and good, we are an equal opportunity Q%26amp;A board.

But, do you find that occasionally one or two of these are simply a springboard, an open invitation if you will, to allow yourself the chance to voice a strong opinion, vent an ongoing frustration, some deep seeded displeasure or simply your position on whatever the (political) theme of that Question is?

Then, perhaps in doing so, you don't really answer the question as it was originally put forth?Do you find that, whether a Question is topical or not, if just gives (you AND me) the opportunity to RANT?
and that's why so many questions are and should be deleted.

questions on yahoo answers should be questions seeking knowledge.

a lot of questions asked are simply being asked to get racial, bigoted and hate-filled opinions.

and that's not what this forum is all about.

nothing is wrong with a strong opinion, provided it's not filled with racial comments, hatred and insults to other members on the board.

but unfortunately, too many questions and responses like that have been allowed to remain out here and that has really hurt this Elections forum.Do you find that, whether a Question is topical or not, if just gives (you AND me) the opportunity to RANT?
No. I'm not interested in ranting or reading anybody else's rants. If you have something to say, organize your thoughts and lets have it...otherwise, keep it to yourself!
Yes, I think that's true. Sometimes I want to expand on someone's question, or voice my disagreement with an idea, rather than actually answer the question.
Isn't it fun?
i'd have to say that almost EVERYBODY posting questions in the ';elections'; section is just making a point and looking to have it confirmed. even people who sound reasonable usually have a discernible bias and the best answers they give are inevitably in accordance with it. that said, if someone is using the question format to just state opinions, it doesn't seem wrong to basically do the same in the answers. in a sense it's not really a violation if the question itself isn't really a question, understand?
yep
Definately! I think that is human nature to do that, esp when you feel so passionate about a certain topic and see how many people agree with your rant.

Why is it mostly ranting liberals left in here?

There used to be intelligent dialog in here. Now only a few conservatives remain.

I guess most decided to participate in life rather than sit in front of a computer getting diabetes. LOLWhy is it mostly ranting liberals left in here?
Liberals detest spirited debate, it goes their every philosophy and being. Liberals feed on every one being the same, of like mind. You must assimilate, no original thought.

All cars must be Yugo's, all vehicle assignments must be approved by the Messiah, Obama. No home or land ownership, all land trades must be approved the Secretary of Realty, Obama. Everyone must be paid the same, requests for additional money must be made to Obama in person, on the 19th day of every other month. No original thoughts, all thoughts must be approved by the Minister of Thought, the all-mighty OBama. Why is it mostly ranting liberals left in here?
So you're saying that the only ';intelligent dialog'; here is between conservatives? Liberals/different view points are not intelligent? Typical conservative mind set.

I'm a hardcore liberal and I'm more than willing to have intelligent conversations with people of opposite views, I do it almost daily. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean they are stupid.

I love trolling questions like these.
Because YA censored the conservatives way too much.

After a while, they decided that there were more productive things to do than to set up new level 1 accounts every other day due to to being suspended for political speech.
Conservatives don't find repeating themselves over and over again to be a productive use of their time and resources.
Neo-con troll hour begins later in the day.

Or maybe they've seen the light and decided to care for other members of society.
Now that is the most intellectual question I have heard all day, and your dialog! I guess your standing in front of your computer.
I have never seen a Liberal Rant posted on YA.

The word rant specifically denotes violence and hostility those are distinct RedsStater traits,
I see that you are ranting, so what you're trying to say is that you're a ';liberal'; now?
So why are you still here?
It usually depends on the day or the hour. Right now its a Lib army that is censoring our answers to the bottom of the list. Talk about free speech violations.

  • What is the best way to look at life with a positive viewpoint? I know this is kinda a rant...?

All in all, my life has been pretty bad. I grew up as a poor white kid in one of the worst ghettos in the state of Illinois. I was raised by psychotic parents that refused to throw anything so I have never been able to have a ';best friend';.

Anyway, I waded through all of my stormy childhood and I am here at college. Remember how college is supposed to be an excellent experience? Well it has not been for me.

For instance, I recently learned my prom date was strangled to death! How often does this happen?!

Then a couple of days later, my next door neighbor came into my room at 3:00am and accidentally urinated all of my books, shoes, binders, and clothes (he sleepwalks). My roommate saw him do it and didn't stop him.

My roommate also didn't lock the door.

Because it wasn't his fault he's not in trouble. I may be able to receive some money though

To make matters worse my boss is a complete prick.

The college I go to absolutely sucks. My advisor is a jerk as well.

Why be happy? What is the best way to look at life with a positive viewpoint? I know this is kinda a rant...?
One reason to be happy-you made it into college! as a poor white kid growing up in the ghetto and not having the best home life you still managed to deal with that while getting what must be decent grades to even make it into college. Start by looking at the things that are going good. Trust me, I know it is sooo much easier to look at the neg. and hear the negative. But you have to believe that you are here on this earth for a reason and that you do matter. Take these challenges and ask yourself what your supposed to learn from it; patience, empathy, strength, kindness, etc. Some day things will turn around for you! just keep finding the positives!!What is the best way to look at life with a positive viewpoint? I know this is kinda a rant...?
What you need to do is start to turn events around so that a negative instantly becomes a positive. You cannot change the sort of child hood you have but you can try to make a much better life for yourself from now on. Don't get mad, get ahead....
I grew up in a simliar environment, family was poor, had no power, no running water, long drop for a toilet, wore hand me downs that wer 10yo, used to wash our clothes in the river. But realised that education was the only means to better myself and my environment. I have a double major and make 110K a year and continuosly do courses to better myself. Money is not everything in life but it makes it a damn lot easier.

Please don't listen to me I'm just a conspiracy theorist, a lose canon (*yes this is a rant)?

Welcome to the New World Order.

In this New Order, ';freedom'; means protecting bankster controlled corporatist oligarchical governments from their own people, who, soon enough, will realize just how badly they have been duped by their ';representatives';, vis a vis ';globalization'; and ';environmental protection'; (for example the phoney Global Warming scam, which will result in a lifetime in a tax on our own individual carbon footprints) and culminating in crippling taxation and complete destruction of the middle class, leaving only two groups, the mass of very poor and the privileged, and very few, very rich elite. Modern feudalism, if you will.

In this New Order, dissenters that speak out against this corporatist oligarchy will be labelled ';terrorists'; and targeted as enemies of the state, using the newly minted terrorism laws that have eroded our civil liberties. This is just the beginning.

They will start slowly and work their way up to a level only dreamed about in Orwell's 1984.

The corporatist banksters will do it so slowly, and over a period of many years, so many of us will say there is nothing wrong and say that those of us who are warning of this death spiral are ';nutters'; and ';loonies';.

You have been duly warned. Please don't listen to me I'm just a conspiracy theorist, a lose canon (*yes this is a rant)?
Honestly I understand where you're coming from and I agree with most of what you're saying.

However I don't think global warming is a scam, can you provide us with some statistics to back up your point? Please don't listen to me I'm just a conspiracy theorist, a lose canon (*yes this is a rant)?
Someone will label this as a 'rant'

    so be it

    I enjoyed reading it
You are REALLY exaggerating. It's like saying that a dime is worth WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY less than a dollar.

Of course the objective most people who are in power is to stay in power, so maintains the structures of power.

I'd say that there are grains of twisted truth, but get real honestly. I would focus on what IS happening, not what MIGHT BE happening.

If you had done that, then you would have noticed that the anti-global warming stuff is backed up by the 'oligarchs'....not the other way around.

Is it true that you can be just as cranky from too much sleep as too little? Also a rant, so I apologise?

I seem to have found that today. Woke up at 7, tried working out what to do but wasn't feeling too happy so I slept till about 9ish. Thought 'Oh, I'll make it for my 11:00 lecture'and went back to sleep till about just before 11and thought I may as well go to my 12:00 lecture.. but went to sleep till about 20 past 1! By which time it wouldn't have been worth going (Even though it's a beastly one that goes on fro 2 hours).

So I just lay in bed generally feeling 'gah/meh/blah/whatever else you'd call it'.

The fire alarm at my halls went off twice. Once at 1:45 (I'd not long gone to bed) and then once agian for a few seconds aobut 5 minutes later.

I screamed the second time the alarm went off. In the past 5 days, we've had 2 days without water at all, and 2 nights where the fire alarm has gone off twice. I was NEVER scared of fire alarms before Saturday night, when it went off in the middle of the night the first time.Is it true that you can be just as cranky from too much sleep as too little? Also a rant, so I apologise?
Well, clearly, even though you were in bed for a long time, you weren't getting quality sleep. A bad night's sleep can make anyone cranky. Stay in this weekend and try to catch up on some sleep. If you really do not feel fully rested no matter how much sleep you get, you could be sick or you may have mild depression. Make an appointment at the health center on campus, if everything checks out fine, you should make an appointment at the counseling center.

Best of luck!Is it true that you can be just as cranky from too much sleep as too little? Also a rant, so I apologise?
i get grumpy if i have to much sleep and end up feeling awful, but in your case what you will probably fined is because you were startled by the fire alarm when you go to sleep subconsciously you are waiting for it to go off again so you are not going into a deep sleep and working through things so you are not really getting a good nights sleep, this alone will make you feel tired and grumpy, try and relax before you go to bed hopefully the fire alarm will be fixed soon so you can get that much needed good nights sleep
Well, you didn't get quality sleep, did you? If you keep waking up, for however short a period, your body doesn't get a chance to run through it's sleep phases, and it's the REM stage that's the most important when it comes to feeling rested. So I would suggest that you need a decent night's sleep as you're tired - even though you basically stayed in bed for most of the day. On a separate note, why do the alarms keep going off? And what's with the water? You need to have a word with the warden of your halls, and failing that, the university. You can't study effectively under these circumstances.
maybe you just need extra sleep today or for the next few days. other things are probably making you crabby and tired. PMS? Just don't let it linger.
